Level 1 / Pre -GCSE English This class is a good choice for those who wish to brush up their reading and writing skills or who want to prepare to start the GCSE level English course next. You will learn such skills as planning, drafting and editing your writing in a variety of real-life situations, and your trainer will give you a lot of individual help to prepare you for the Level 1 National Literacy Test (equivalent to GCSE Grades D-E) which you will take at the end of the course. Writing tasks in class are designed to help you develop your ability to explore and comment on a range of interesting, well-written texts, including poems, articles, short stories and non-fiction texts. The class runs for 2½ hours per week (evenings or days).

Level 2 / GCSE level English You will need GCSE level English if you plan to go to college or university or do a full trainer training qualification, and many employers also require it. It is a rewarding and challenging course which will help you develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and give you the confidence to use these at work or in further study. The topics and activities are very varied, and include giving oral presentations, creative writing and interpreting literature and other genres of written English. Assessment is by an one hour exam. The class runs for 3 hours per week (evenings or days).
